Looking Outside is for curious people looking for a fresh take on familiar topics, in business and beyond.
On this episode of Looking Outside, we explore emerging risk - those issues seemingly in the further out future that we chose not to prioritize, act on, or perhaps even take seriously. Joining us is trained economist turned futurist, and CEO of futures think thank and advisory, the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, Daria (Dasha) Krivonos. Having led strategic risk management at Maersk (up until recently, one of the world's biggest shipping companies), Dasha is no stranger to risk mitigation and anticipation, nor to seeing how bias and emotions feed into how risks are handled. Dasha shares how optimism is normal state of the human condition, but that a false sense of optimism for one safe and preferred future, with blinders on to emerging risks in the periphery, can be detriment to a business, even negligent.
To look outside, Dasha spends time with her 20 year step-daughter, who challenges her worldview. By getting a glimpse into the questions and perspectives of young people, Dasha is able to look at herself from the outside in.
Daria (Dasha) Krivonos is CEO of the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies. She has a background in strategic risk management across multiple sectors. She firmly believes that managing short-term risks and looking beyond the immediate planning horizon are equally essential approaches to maneuvering an organization through the uncertainties of the future.
Dasha’s broad knowledge of both megatrends and societal development patterns, combined with her hands-on experience as Head of Enterprise Risk Management at the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group, demonstrates Dasha’s proficiency in applying research directly to concrete realities and the challenges that companies and organisations face.
Dasha co-wrote the report The New Age of Trade: Trends and Drivers Shaping the World Economy (2018) and presented its main conclusions at multiple members’ events hosted in Copenhagen, Oslo and Brussels.
Dasha's expertise lies primarily within Economy, Geopolitics, Trade, Risk Management, Climate and Environment. She holds an MA in Economics from the University of Copenhagen.
Dasha is a co-founder and organizer of the movement March for Science Denmark, which aims to underscore the importance of free and independent science for the development of society. With this in mind, Dasha hopes to contribute to raising the bar for societal debates and improving the extent to which these debates are anchored in facts.
