Looking Outside is for curious people looking for a fresh take on familiar topics, in business and beyond.

On this episode of Looking Outside, we’re exploring the role of humor in business. Whether it’s silly doodles, clever cartoons, or gentle jokes, giving and having the permission to laugh at ourselves, at our industry, and at our field of expertise can elevate corporate culture. Sharing how he does this every day, with over 200 corporate clients, is world-leading marketing cartoonist, Marketoonist and author of Your Ad Ignored Here, Tom Fishburne. Tom shares how provoking a laugh, and encouraging people to not take themselves too seriously in business, sets a new tone for corporate culture that elevates how people work together.

To look outside, Tom observes people; dropping himself into an environment that he doesn’t know well. By sketching whatever and whoever is around him, he practices paying attention to his environment (and not his phone).

Tom Fishburne, creator of Marketoonist, is a keynote speaker who draws cartoons from deep business experience. He speaks worldwide on the power of humor to help us do our best work. Started more than 20 years ago in the Harvard Business School student newspaper, Marketoonist is now read by half a million weekly readers. A former Chief Marketing Officer, Tom’s cartoon studio has created campaigns for more than 200 businesses, including Google and Adobe.
